Who Am I .. That the Lord of All the Earth Would Care to Know my Name

I am reading a new book called the Marriage Made In Eden. I picked this book up because as a girl of the 80′s a woman’s role has changed so much.
Quite honestly, I can’t figure out how NOT to wear the pants in the family.. there I said it.. the ugly truth. I was single for years, worked, raised a boy on my own and then my husband came along. I wanted to be a “christian wife” but exactly what does that mean.. therefore .. the book

So interestingly enough, this is a pretty complicated book about the pre-modern perspective on relationship, family and community and dealing with that as a christian.
Without getting to detailed… the consensus so far is .. our “me” attitude have driven us to the “more I have, the better I will be” regardless of the cost. We have moved from our communities for job opportunities that uproot us , which have made us strangers in a strange land. Our nomadic mentality keeps us from getting close to people, we become our own island, we forget how to make friends, mingle at a party or to even love as deeply as we are intended to do.

We have become so narcissistic… but in all of this.. we are a lonely generation. Sitting in front of a TV.. which by the way has become our new “community” We know the name of the characters in a TV show but don’t know our neighbors name. I am sooo guilty of this… Grey’s Anatomy… by new obsession.. sad I know… but seriously. Instead of sitting in front of the TV for 3 hrs.. yes I said it Greys anatomy… I will go down and check on my elderly neighbor. I have her cake pan from Christmas for crying out loud. A cake she made me upon my request because she makes a lovely run cake.

OK.. I could go on and on… but we need to spend more time with family friends and in our communities. Volunteer… it takes the focus off yourself… love your neighbor.. that’s a commandment. Jesus knew the future… he’s not surprised by our selfishness and self-centered ways.

Today I am going to return a cake pan, practicing some music for a St Patty sing a long at the assisted living home… love those ladies… and try to think of something else I can do for someone else. It’s true… you do get back more than you ever give
